Advanced Shipping Price Rules - Shipping Cost on Product Weight

The "Cost on Product Weight" advanced shipping rule allows you to set shipping rates based on the weight of the products. You can gradually increase, decrease, or keep the shipping cost stable within specific weight ranges.

To use this feature, you need to specify the product, minimum and maximum product weight, and the amount to be added or subtracted per kilogram. To maintain a consistent shipping cost throughout the weight range, keep the fee amount at zero.

How it works:

Specify the minimum and maximum product weight for the desired range. For example, you can set the minimum weight as 'x' and the maximum weight as 'x+12' where the weight is measured in kilograms. This will create a range of 12 kgs.

To increase the shipping cost for this weight range per added kilogram, keep the amount positive. Conversely, to decrease the shipping cost with increasing weight, keep the amount negative.

The shipping cost will be added to the base shipping amount, which you've filled in the shipping configuration section for this method. For instance, if you add $1, customers will be charged a base amount + $1 for the 'x' kgs, and the base amount + $5 for 'x+4' kgs.

Here's an example:

Let's say you want to charge customers $10 if they buy items weighing between 4-10 kg, with an additional fee of $0.5. Follow these steps to set it up:

  1. Go to the configuration section of the main form (Shipping Method Configuration) and add a base amount of $6.
  2. In the Advanced Shipping Price Rules section, select the "Cost on Product Weight" rule. Configure the weight range and amount as follows:
    1. Minimum product weight: 4 kg, Maximum product weight: 10 kg, Additional charge: $0.5.
    2. Minimum product weight: 11 kg, Maximum product weight: 15 kg, Additional charge: $1.
    3. Minimum product weight: 16 kg, Maximum product weight: 20 kg, Additional charge: $1.5.
  3. Save the changes.

If a customer purchases items weighing between 4-10 kg, the shipping cost will be calculated as follows:

  • Base shipping cost = $10.
  • An additional shipping cost of $0.5 for the weight range of 4-10 kg

Total shipping cost = Base shipping cost + Additional shipping cost = $10 + $0.5 = $10.5

Same as, If a customer purchases items weighing between 11-15 kg, the shipping cost will be calculated as follows:

  • Base shipping cost = $10.
  • An additional shipping cost of $1 for the weight range of 11-15 kg

Total shipping cost = Base shipping cost + Additional shipping cost = $10 + $1 = $11
