How to add a subtitle with the flat rate shipping in WooCommerce

In WooCommerce, shipping methods usually show just the title (e.g., Flat Rate – $10). But sometimes, you may want to add a subtitle or description to explain details such as:

  • Delivery time (e.g., Delivered in 2–3 business days)
  • Special conditions (e.g., Free for orders above $100)
  • Restrictions (e.g., Available only for local customers)

With the Flat Rate Shipping Plugin, you can easily add subtitles to your flat rate shipping methods.

Why use a subtitle with flat rate shipping?

  • Clarity: Show delivery timelines or restrictions directly at checkout.
  • Trust: Increase customer confidence by being transparent.
  • Reduced queries: Customers don’t need to guess what each method means.
  • Professional look: Improves the overall checkout experience.

Configuration steps

1. Add a flat rate shipping method

  • Go to Dashboard → Dotstore → Flat Rate Shipping.
  • Click Add New Shipping Method.

2. Enter a subtitle (description)

  • In the shipping method settings, find the tooltip type option and select the Subtitle / Description field.

    Enter your custom subtitle. Examples:

    • “Delivered within 3–5 working days”
    • “Free shipping for orders above $100”
    • “Local delivery only”

3. Save and test

  • Click Save Changes.
  • Go to your store’s checkout page.
  • The flat rate shipping method will now display with its subtitle below the title.

Two real examples

Example 1: Standard shipping with delivery time

  • Title: Flat Rate – $5
  • Subtitle: Delivered within 3–5 business days
  • Checkout view:

    Flat Rate – $5

    Delivered within 3–5 business days

Example 2: Express shipping with restriction

  • Title: Express Shipping – $15
  • Subtitle: Not available on weekends
  • Checkout view:

    Express Shipping – $15

    Not available on weekends

Expected outcome

Once configured, customers will see subtitles beneath each flat rate shipping option at checkout. This provides extra clarity and builds trust, reducing confusion or abandoned carts.
