How do I move my license key to another domain?

If you need to transfer your Dotstore plugin license key from one domain to another, follow these simple steps.

Step 1: Log in to your Dotstore account and copy the license

  • Visit the Freemius Dashboard.
  • Log in with your account credentials.
  • Navigate to the "My Licenses" section.
  • Find the license key associated with the current domain.

    Copy the license key

Step 2: Deactivate the License on the Old Domain

  • Go to your current domain where the license is active.
  • Log in to the WordPress dashboard.
  • Navigate to Plugins > Installed Plugins.
  • Locate the plugin using the license key and click Deactivate.

    Deactivate the License
  • This will free up the license for use on the new domain.

Step 3: Add the License to the New Domain

  • Install and activate the same plugin on the new domain.
  • Go to the Settings or License section in the plugin settings.
  • Enter the existing license key and click Activate.

    Activate the license

Note: At times, deactivating a license on an old domain may require some time, and you may encounter an error indicating that the plugin is already activated or that the license quota has been utilized.

Step 4: Verify the license and import the plugin settings

Once activated, you will see a confirmation message that the license is now active on the new domain. Could you verify that all the plugin settings are configured properly and everything is working fine?

If you have already configured the settings on the old site, then you can use the import-export feature to quickly import all the settings to the new site.

License inactive after site migration

If your plugin license becomes inactive after migrating your website, it is usually because the license is tied to the previous domain.

For example:

dev.example.com → example.com

When the domain changes, the plugin cannot verify the license automatically.

How to reactivate the license after migration

Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
  2. Go to the plugin settings page.
  3. Locate the License Activation section.
  4. Enter your license key again.
  5. Click Activate License.

This will connect the license to the new domain.

If activation fails

Check the following:

  • The license key is correct
  • The license is not already activated on another domain
  • The server allows outgoing requests

If the problem continues, contact support and provide your license key.

What to do if your license cannot be found

If support cannot locate your license, it may be because the plugin was purchased using a different email address.

To help identify your license, provide one of the following:

  • License key
  • purchase email
  • invoice ID

You can find this information in the purchase confirmation email you received after buying the plugin.

FAQs

Why did my plugin license become inactive after migrating my site?

Plugin licenses are linked to the domain used during activation.

If your website domain changes after a migration, the license must be reactivated on the new domain.

Do I need to reactivate the license after moving my website?

Yes.

Whenever your website domain changes (for example from staging to live), you should reactivate the plugin license.

Can I use the same license on staging and live sites?

Most licenses are limited to a single domain.

If you want to test the plugin on a staging site and later move it to production, you may need to deactivate the license and reactivate it on the new domain.

What should I do if support cannot find my license?

If support cannot locate your license, provide one of the following:

  • License key
  • purchase email
  • invoice number

This information allows the support team to quickly locate your purchase.
