How to enable preferred price on quote requests in WooCommerce
Request a Quote for WooCommerce lets customers ask for custom pricing on any product instead of buying at the listed price.
The Preferred Price option adds a field to the quote request form where customers can suggest the price they'd like to pay — as a fixed amount, a percentage of the catalog price, or a discount off it.
For example, a wholesale buyer requesting a hoodie listed at £26 can enter £21 as their preferred price. When the quote lands in your inbox, you see both figures side by side and decide whether to apply it.

Benefits
Turning on Preferred Price can help:
- Speed up negotiations by having customers state a target price upfront
- Surface serious wholesale or bulk buyers before you spend time drafting a quote
- Give you a documented starting point for the discount you end up offering
How to Enable Preferred Price
Step 1: Turn on Preferred Price
Go to Request a Quote → Global Settings → Quote Page → Options and switch on Allow Preferred Price. This adds a "Preferred price" field to the quote table on your frontend Quote page, next to Quantity.
Step 2: Choose a Preferred Price Type
Under Preferred Price Type, pick how customers state their price:
| Option | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed price | Customer enters a flat amount they want to pay per unit | On a £23 item, enters £19 → preferred price is £19, a £4 discount off the £23 cost |
| Price in percentage | Customer enters the percentage of the catalog price they want to pay | On a £23 item, enters 80 → preferred price is 80% of £23 = £18.40, a £4.60 discount |
| Price as a discount | Customer enters a percentage discount off the catalog price | On a £26 item, enters 10 (% off) → preferred price is £26 − 10% = £23.40 |
Percentage and discount modes both calculate off the catalog unit price. If a product's price is hidden by a quote rule, the Preferred price field still shows — but the plugin needs a catalog cost greater than zero to work out the offered total.
Step 3: Review Preferred Prices on Incoming Quotes
Once enabled, customers see a Preferred price column on the quote request page and can enter an amount per item before submitting.
Open the submitted request under Request a Quote → Quote Requests. In the Quote Items table, each line shows the original Cost next to the customer's Preferred price, with an Apply link underneath.
Step 4: Apply Preferred Prices and Send the Quote
Click Apply on a line to update that item's total to the customer's preferred price, or click Apply all preferred prices to update every line at once. The difference between the catalog cost and the preferred price shows as a discount, both per line and in the Quote Total.
Save and send the quote. The customer sees the adjusted subtotal, discount, and total on their Quote details page, where they can accept or reject it.
Example Use Cases
Wholesale negotiation – A wholesale buyer wants 50 units below your listed price. They enter a fixed preferred price per unit, and you apply it directly if it fits your margin.
Percentage-based bulk offers – You run a "make us an offer" campaign. Customers use Price in percentage mode and enter something like 80% of the catalog price.
Fast-tracking repeat customers – A returning customer suggests a discount amount based on a past order. Applying it takes one click instead of recalculating the total by hand.
Conclusion
Preferred Price lets customers put a number on what they're willing to pay, right inside the quote request. Turn it on, pick fixed, percentage, or discount mode, and their offer shows up next to the catalog price on every request — ready to apply with one click.
FAQs
1. Where do I turn on Preferred Price?
Go to Request a Quote → Global Settings → Quote Page → Options and toggle Allow Preferred Price.
2. What happens if a product's price is hidden?
The Preferred Price field still appears on the request form. But percentage and discount modes need a catalog cost greater than zero to calculate the offered total — if the cost is zero, applying the preferred price as a total won't work.
3. Can I apply a preferred price to only some items in a quote?
Yes. Click Apply next to an individual line item instead of using Apply all preferred prices.
4. Does applying a preferred price change the product's regular price?
No. It only updates the total for that specific quote. The product's regular price on your store stays the same.
