How to Add a Consolidated Service Charge Extra Fee for Clean WooCommerce Checkout

Too many line items at checkout can confuse customers and cause hesitation. This use case helps you merge multiple extra fees into one clear and simple service charge.

Overview

By combining various charges into a single “Service Charge,” you simplify the checkout page while still recovering costs like handling, packing, or rush fees. (Plugin feature: Merge Fee)

Business Impact Example: Merchants using a consolidated fee have reported up to an 8% reduction in cart abandonment, as customers feel less overwhelmed and more confident completing the purchase.

Preconditions

  • Extra Fees plugin is installed and activated.
  • Multiple individual extra fees are already configured

Steps (Basic Flow)

  1. Go to Dashboard > Extra Fees
  2. Click Add New Fee
  3. Set the fee name: Service Charge
  4. Choose Fee Type: Fixed or Percentage as needed
  5. Under Conditions, create rules to include or replace multiple existing fees

  6. Click Save Fees
  7. At checkout, customers will see a single line item labeled Service Charge

Alternate Flow

  • If fees are not merged, they will display as individual line items at checkout.

Expected Outcome

  • Checkout becomes cleaner and more transparent
  • Leads to higher conversion rates and a smoother customer experience
