Compatibility - WPML

WPML is a popular plugin for translating the text within your website into various languages for your international customers. One of the benefits of the Product Attachment for WooCommerce is that you can define regions worldwide and offer varying attachments for each product.

But that means customers speak different languages, so you will want to ensure that your attachment guidelines contain the translations accordingly.

Before we get started, if you do not have a copy of WPML, you can purchase one here.

Getting started

Start by installing and activating the following:

If you’re new to WPML, check out their Getting Started Guide. It quickly walks you through all the translation options you can use.

All the current attachments are automatically moved to your default language.

Our translatable field will be automatically translated if you have automatic translation turned on.

How the feature settings will work

Product attachments work per product and per language when WPML is active.

The workflow is simple:

  • Each product is created or translated based on your site's languages
  • Each translated product has its own Attachment section
  • You upload attachments separately for each language

When a customer switches the site language, WPML loads the correct product version along with its language-specific attachments.

How to configure the feature

  • Install and configure WPML
  • Add all required site languages

⚠️ The Bulk Attachment section is not fully compatible with WPML.

This means:

  • Bulk attachments may not sync correctly across languages
  • For multilingual stores, it is recommended to add attachments manually per product per language

Digital products and software

Conclusion

Using Product Attachments with WPML allows you to deliver the right documents in the right language.

By adding attachments separately for each translated product, you ensure customers always receive relevant and understandable information.

For best results, manage attachments manually per language and avoid bulk attachment for multilingual setups.
