How to Add International Order Extra Fees in WooCommerce

International shipping often involves extra paperwork, customs handling, and coordination. This use case shows how to add a flat fee for international orders to recover those additional costs.

Overview

Using the Extra Fees plugin, you can apply a specific charge for customers ordering from outside your home country. This ensures that cross-border fulfillment stays profitable and transparent. (Plugin Feature: International Order Fees)

Business Impact Example: Many store owners add a $12 fee per international order to help cover the cost of customs documents, clearance delays, and international carrier charges—all without inflating product pricing for local buyers.

Preconditions

  • Extra Fees plugin is installed and activated.
  • International shipping zones are set up in WooCommerce

Steps (Basic Flow)

  1. Go to WooCommerce > Extra Fees
  2. Click Add New Fee
  3. Name the fee: International Order Fee
  4. Set Fee Type to: Fixed
  5. Set Amount to: $12
  6. Under Conditions, select the appropriate International Shipping Zones

  7. Click Save Fees
  8. At checkout, international customers will see the fee applied automatically

Alternate Flow

  • If the shipping address is domestic, the fee will not be added.

Expected Outcome

  • Helps you offset international shipping and customs costs without disrupting the user experience
